Through the Window

Kia ora, in Te Ngahere we have been doing a math activity called Through the Window. The whole point of this was to try and figure out how some windows had been priced at the price they were at. All I knew what to do at the beginning was find the area and perimeter but not the next step, then Whaea Chrissy gave us some advice which was look at windows which shared the same area but not the same perimeter. I made a DLO for this activity so if this post doesn’t really make sense there’s the DLO to look at. Do you like doing measurement?

Magnificent Mahi Toi

Kia ora, in Te Ngahere we have been doing art. Our art this week is basically two koru with patterns in between it. To begin we’ve been practicing on a piece of paper which had a couple of koru with patterns on it already but it was really light so we had to trace over it. There were four practice Mahi Toi (Mahi Toi is art in Maori) on the piece of paper. When people had finished all the practices they then practiced shading, I find doing shading really difficult. If a person feels ready they can move onto the real thing. I found doing the Mahi Toi hard because I can’t really draw or trace that well, and I can’t shade either. Do you enjoy doing art? Here is what our Mahi Toi looks like.

Funky Google Music

Kia ora, in Te Ngahere we have begun to do Google Music Lab. Google Music Lab is a website that has a lot of interactive activities teaching you how to learn how to make digital music. There are three activities we have to do, they are the rhythm lesson, the melody lesson and the Kandinsky lesson. By Tuesday next week (as of this post) we will have learnt those three lessons and made a song. We have only done the rhythm lesson so far but it has been very fun. The rhythm lesson was very easy for me because all we really needed to do was press a few buttons and it would make a rhythm. I think making a song will be hard. Do you like making music? Here is what some of our work looked like.

Explaining Newton's Laws

Kia ora, in Te Ngahere we have been writing an explanation piece of writing. The reason we have been writing the explanations is to show that we understand Newton’s Laws of Motion and everything else that has been explained e.g trajectory, aerodynamics, mass and drag. At first I struggled writing the explanation because I wasn’t sure on how to start my introduction, but once I did, it got a whole lot easier. Here is my writing. Have you ever done an explanation piece of writing?

Wonder Launches

Kia ora, in Te Ngahere we have been continuing with the Wonder Project. We have made a rocket and launched it a couple of times. Everytime we launch our rocket we have to record all the details like, how much PSI we used, the distance our rocket flew and what we need to modify. Something that has kept on happening that we haven’t figured out how to fix yet is, our wings have kept falling off mid flight. The farthest that our rocket has flown is 14.2 meters, it would’ve gone further in our latest flight (as of this post) but it got blown off course and stopped by a tree. Something that is difficult to do is modify our rocket so that our wings don’t fall off. Something that is easy to do is launching our rocket.

I Am Hope Treasure Hunt

Kia ora, at Paihia School, Mrs Lindsay set up a treasure hunt. The reason we had a treasure hunt was to fundraise for a charity called I am Hope. I am Hope fundraises for people with mental health issues. To participate in the treasure hunt you had to bring in two dollars (We fundraised $402 in total). There were 15 prizes in total. To get a prize we had to find a picture of a gumboot. On the back of the gumboots there we numbers, the number on the gumboot determined what prize you got. The gumboots were hidden really well and I found it very hard but it was enjoyable. Do you like treasure hunts?
